Ohm's law is an empirical relation which accurately describes the conductivity of the vast majority of electrically conductive materials over many orders of magnitude of current. The basic law of current flow is Ohm's law.

The ohm, a unit of electrical resistance, is equal to that of a conductor in which a current of one ampere is produced by a potential of one volt across its terminals.

Unlike most German scientists at the time, Ohm took a mathematical approach in his considerations of electricity and magnetism. The physics laboratory was well equipped, allowing Ohm to begin experiments in physics.

While his work greatly influenced the theory and applications of current electricity,[5] it was coldly received at that time. His writings were numerous. Paternal displeasure resulted in Ohm dropping out of school after three semesters and relocating to Switzerland, where he became a teacher of mathematics. Ohm wrote an elementary geometry book while teaching mathematics at several schools. He finally found the success he had been longing for throughout much of his life in the 1840s.

In slightly modified form, Ohm’s law can be extended to alternating current circuits as well as magnetic circuits.
