If you want to explore, be super careful. But notice there’s also an opening to your right. The trail is a little less muddy but, after a long day’s climbing, it’s lumpy and tiring on your feet. It is approximately 1/2 mile past Josh Road (on left side of the road). I was surprised to see so many cairns on the lower portion of this hike.

When you get back to the summit, the main trail, for when you want to leave the mountain, heads down to your left.
