I haven't read this book for many years, but my rating for it is thusly based on my 12 year-old self's impression of the book when he read an uncorrected proof copy that a librarian lent him way back in the day. In that battle, violence is punctuated with profanity. Since then most people have lived normal lives until Danny starts to see things moving in slow motion and Colin starts to be able to hear things that no human should be able to hear. Many supers. Danny is then able to penetrate the null force field around the nucleus by traveling at a speed faster than light. His powers were gone, but he knew that his accomplices would break him out at the right time. If that doesn't tell you how good it is, read the book.

One part that was not good and was just too random was when a helicopter appeared out of nowhere and captured the boys and Colin'. Also, their was no need for that ending, I just really didn't like it. The Awakening is the first book in a series called Quantum Prophecy. After reading part of this series in early high school, I was captured by the campy superhero stories and fun world that was built up in these books. Colin’s mother speculates that he admires a superhero who had supermodel girlfriends. At the airport, Colin manages to outsmart Victor’s guards, even though his powers are no longer functioning. What surprised me about this book is that we are greeted with another book in the series where their kids end up fighting crime against villains.
