The film catches your attention from the very first scene and leaves you wanting more after the shocking finale. "The Song of Names" is a film with Clive Owen and Tim Roth elegantly directed by Francois Girard. But David is a no-show, and the concert is canceled. Below average holocaust movie, with good music and a jerk. The title refers to a sacred Jewish ritual where the names of the Holocaust victims are recited in a musical style. There is no story behind that. none of the characters make connection with the audience, they're motivation is useless and no real plot. The director, Francois Girard, and, I suspect, the same Canadian production company were involved in the 1998 RED VIOLIN. I've heard that the violin, when played by a master, is as close to the voice of the divine as the human ear is capable of hearing. An exquisitely unfolding story that approaches the horror of the Holocaust from a different perspective - that of the many refugees who suspected but were left in the agony of uncertainty. This movie is probably the best movie I have seen so far in this year 2020. Then on top of that is a perspective I've never heard before, one that carries significant weight.

Another disappointed film! As turnout, this film is about Martin taking initiative to find Dovidl, after he realize Dovidl still alive!

"The Song of Names", directed by the wonderful François Girard, surpassed all of my expectations! Entire film too slow, and full of boring flashback scene! Moments like the film THE SONG OF NAMES. His accent isn't even Polish (the nationality of his character) but a semblance of a generic eastern European 'Jewish' accent.

into the movie but to tell you more of the plot would spoil your viewing experience, you'll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out. That's it! “The Song of Names” begins with a disappearance: In 1951, David Eli Rapoport, a violinist of around 21, is set to make a splash on the London stage. At the end, Dovidl eventually perform the violin concert he owe to Martin! i'm a fan of Tim Roth, my mom was a classical trained musician, and I was genuinely optimistic about Song of Names. The score, by the great Howard Shore, expertly showcases the film's haunting, mysterious tone. Based on a novel by Norman Lebrecht (the screenplay is by Jeffrey Caine) and directed by François Girard, “The Song of Names” is a pointed demonstration that “survivor’s guilt” is a rather more complex state than the slightly glib phrase suggests. In his late adolescence, agonizing over the still-unknown fate of his family, Dovidl renounces Judaism and acts out in other ways.

FAQ Certainly worth a watch, even if just for the magnificent violin solos! Yes, this is a wonderful and memorable film. Really? "The Name of Songs" (2019 release from Canada; 113 min.) Apparently there were no women, all Jews are also men. Seeing this gem was the highlight of my week. I saw this movie and had the chance to discuss it with Girard at the 2019 FIN Atlantic film festival while covering it for the radio where I work. Like that film it takes place over multiple time periods, in this film clearly stated to be 1951, 1986, and the earliest, unidentified time which can be inferred to be sometime between March and September 1939.

It does a good job with presenting the historical period.
